No network resources

I have a customer who has Windows 98. The only time he can see the servers in his workgroup is when I change the computer name, which causes the Windows 98 logon dialog to appear.

When the logon dialog doesn't appear, he can't see the servers in his workgroup and he can't expand the Entire Network icon.

How do I set it up so that he has to enter his user every time so that he can always see the other workstations in his workgroup.

Other workstation (also Win98) in the workgroup, don't have this problem.

Any ideas?

What is the Primary Network Logon on the other computers. Check to see it is the same on this machine.

Right click Network Neighborhood, theres a drop down

Cry Tried this - didn't work

I looked at this and it was a network login.

Here's the situation, if I change the computer name, it will bring up the logon dialog and then I can see the network. If I reboot with the same computer name, the logon dialog doesn't come up and I can't see the network. If I type Net Use from the command-line, it says I'm not logged in.

I changed the password for the user, it asks for the password, but still doesn't logon to the network.

What am I missing?

Control panel / networks
change access control to user-level access control
Identification make sure computer name is unique to network, make sure workgroup is same as others on network.
Configuration , set primary network logon to microsoft family logon.
You may have to create a new user account "default user" so that windows knows that it has to offer a logon , make sure to give it a password

Reboot and login to default user
then log off, login to the original
reboot and it should bring original user name and ask for password.
