Default gateway and DNS suffix

One of the computers running through my router refuses to generate a default gateway and a DNS suffix. The weird parts are as follows.

1) When I plug the computer into another cable on the router it works fine
2) When I plug another computer into the cable it works fine
3) When I run the cable to straight to the cable modem it works fine

can anyone tell me what is going on here?

Not from that description.

How about some details about the system, and make/model of the router, version/patch level of Windows on the machine. Also, do this when it's connecting properly, and when it's failing.

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

The indications are that the machine isn't finding the DNS server. From the rest of your description, I'd say you have a bad cable, port, or connector on the NIC. I'm betting the cable has the twisted pairs wired incorrectly, and the one computer is barely connecting, but this one can't make the connection. In any case, this appears to be a hardware problem, not software.
