switching from wireless to wired

I need some help here, I'm still useing my wireless router (D-link di-524) and when I run the cat-5 from the wired ports and to the ethernet plug on my motherboard it's not detecting it. When i pull out my wireless card and go to "my network places" I have local area network 5 (not detected) and network bridge. What is this network bridge? My motherboard says it has gigLAN, could this be the problem not being able to connect to the 10/100 router, what am i doing wrong?

Uninstall the network bridge, and it'll probably start working. :)

The gigabit NIC should have no trouble talking to 10/100 devices. I have a number of different combinations here, they all play nice together.

The most obvious issues at this point are drivers for the MB, bad cable, bad NIC, or a bad port on the router.

You can change ports on the router, and try a new cable. If neither of those work, my next step would be to stick a cheap Ethernet NIC into the machine and eliminate the hardware and drivers.

is there any thing special setup required to use the nvidia drivers, On both my router and back of my computer i see a blinking led, it blinks very slowly though, not like an active connection, I would try a nic, but i don't have any spares lyring around, and I don't have much money right now, and I won't for a while. This is what my motherboard book says about the LAN (Biostar N4SLI-A9)
"Gigabit Ethernet LAN
-Nvidia Gigabit MAC + Vitesse Gigabit PHY Vsc8201
-Supports 10Mb/s, 100Mb/s, and 1GB/s Auto-negotiation
-Half/Full duplex capability
Supports personal Firewall setup
Supports ACPI power management
Security
Nvidia Network Management
-Remote access, configuration, monitoring
-Command line interface (CLI)
-WMI scripts
Nvidia Firewall technology
-Native firewall solution, protects the PC from intuders by filtering unauthorized traffic."
Could it be that some of these saftey features are keeping me from connecting to the router?

You need to load the motherboard drivers, then the NIC drivers.
