Cannot connect computer to the router

I'm trying to connect a computer with an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboard running Windows XP with an AMD Athlon XP 64-bit 4600+ to a Linksys wired cable modem. The motherboard has two ethernet plugs in the back (It says they are 1194, I can't quite remember the exact number), while it shows that my ethernet adaptor which is a Maxwell Yukon is not connected. I'm using a 25' Cat 5E cable from Radio Shack. Do I have to purchase a ethernet PCI card and plug it in to the motherboard, or am I just an idiot? Thanks in advance!

Have you tried enabling it under network connections?

Check in Device Manager under Network controllers and see if you have any listed. Perhaps the drivers aren't loaded? If they appear with no errors, are you sure the cable you're using is good?

I have the network adaptor driver installed and I know the cable works (I tried it on the main computer and it works just fine with both the router and the cable box). Thanks for the replies!

Does the NIC appear with no errors in Device Manager? How about connecting the cable and doing this:

Open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.
