Problems Connecting to my university network
I am having a problem connecting to my university network.
Basically it says that the network cable is unplugged. The problem is I have tried it in a mates room down the hall and it works, the uni tested my computer and the network card I bought from them and that works. They say they have come into my room and tested the port and they say that works. See my dilemma... It works everywhere but in my room, but they say the port works. By the way I am connecting to the network using an ethernet cable. The help would be much apprciated. Blackthorn |

Try someone elses computer in your room using your cable and see what happens.
You may need someone from Tech Support to physically meet you in your room with your machine and cable to make sure everything really does work. It is possible that someone from Tech Support looked at your "room" connection remotely and there may be a problem with labeling or in a database and they see your "room" as working, but it may not actually be your "room"! Hope this is clear?? JamesO |

Network Cable
To reiterate the previous post....this seems to be a cable issue. If the port was physically tested and the computer was physically tested then physically test the cable or try another cable from a friend's working computer. Not trying to step on toes JamesO just thought it needed to be emphasized more.

Thanks for the help
Hey,
Thanks to you guys out there who tried to help but the problem is sorted now. The problem was I got a Network card that was specific to the CAT5 Ethernet connection thing, where as the network in my halls runs on CAT3 (doen't mean a thing to me, but it could help other out there) and so I managed to obtain a network card that ran on all of them from one of the technicians and it now works. Thanks for the help Blackthorn |
