Puter runing slow because of D-Link?
We have had D-Link for about 2 years, and it wasn't until the last few months that it has been losing conection, and running slow. We updated the D-Link, and it's not losing connection anymore, but it's still making the puter run really slow. I don't think it's the modem because when we unplug the D-Link, and plug it back in again, the puter runs fast again. It's driving us nuts cause we have 3 puters, and a PS2 hooked up to it, and it makes everyone lag. Is there anything I can do about this?

You probably have a dlink hub. What you need to get is a switch. With a hub, all network traffic is broadcasted to all the devices on the net. With a switch it creates a routing table and forwards the packets to the correct device.
Another possibility is that you have a virus/spyware running on one of your computers and is generating to alot traffic, thus slowing down your network connections. If you do not Virus protection you can use trendmicros free online scanner. You can also download adaware and spybot search and destory to scan the pc's for spyware. |

If you've tried several of the LAN connections to the router, perhaps the WAN port has died. I had a D-Link DI-614+ with a defective WAN port, and it would run at about 1/10 normal speed. Check and see if it's still under warranty and send it back.

More information please?
What is your model of D-Link and what is the current firmware version? What type of broadband connection do you have? DSL, Cable, Other? If you have DSL, it is quite possible you are exceeding your bandwidth in one direction, causing latency? It is possible that you are consuming all the bandwidth on your broadband connection or you may have some other basic problem. How are all of your machines connected? Wired, wireless? JamesO |
