A Sort of Networking question..

I'm not sure where I should have posted this, or if it's even possible.

My question is this. Is there any software that allows for the creation of a virtual lan?

For example, I'd like to be able to play games with my friend, and have him be able to access my files and vice versa.

I really don't know if this is possible, or even what it is really if it is.

Thanks in advance.

VPN (Virtual Private Network) software is what you are referring to. Usually you need a special router that supports VPN and some routers require you purchase a separate VPN software module to access the VPN. Usually around $50 for the VPN module.
