WinME Laptop & XP Desktop Network (Dlink)
Hello,
I used to have my XP Pc connected to my WinME laptop through a Dlink DI-604 router and SBCs Speedstream5100 modem...and it worked great. I have moved now and no longer use SBC. The ISP provided me with a USB modem (its ISDN or ADSL or something like that) I came to connect the laptop and desktop but have not been able to get the PC to see the laptop or vice versa. Can I use the DLINK router as a basic Network hub? Or do I need an internet connection going into it? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! |

If you turn off the DHCP server in the router and use just the LAN ports, it'll act just like a $10 switch.
![]() With only two machines, all you should need is a CAT5 crossover cable. Note that is not a standard CAT5 patch cable, perhaps that's the problem?
