Here is the story, i was at my friends house and i needed to take a quiz online. I noticed that his computer was very unstable and kept freezing and it was pissing me off because i was taking a timed quiz. Anyways i decided to do him a favor and download spyware dr and an antivirus and the spyware doctor found over 450 items and the virus detector was goin off every 5 seconds just to show how dumb this kid is. Well i delete the spyware and viruses. Here is where it gets juicy. He has cable internet access, and now his network says limited or no activity, web pages dont load, and the problem says that it cant renew the ip address. I tried the ipconfig/renew whatever, and that didnt work so i was wondering if this is common and or what i should do to help him out cuz now he is sayin i screwed his pc up even though he had hundreds of viruses and spyware programs running and even had his browser hijacked without realizing it but thats not the point. Ide appreciate any help anyone could give me.

one thing that i have seen happen before is that people get spyware and go crazy deleting things some times different programs share files called dll files dynamic linking library files sometimes spyware may share files with legitimate programs and if you delete the spyware the legitimate file will no longer work spybot has an undo function in case you do something like this and xp makes system restore points when spybot does stuff but usually when you delete dll files that are important windows will give you errors

You probably need to fix the WINSOCK linkages. Here are two fixes, one is XP specific, one is generic to all versions of Windows. I believe they'll fit on a floppy, so download the correct version and run it on the dead machine.
