Hi,
I am visiting a friends apartment for a while and wanted to try and access their wireless network. I have logged into the network using the WEP on my card and have a 100%strength and logged in and it is all green. I can't connect to the internet though. I have run IPCONFIG in the command window and got these results: AUTOCONFIG IP ADDRESS: 169.254.91.217 Subnet Mask : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway : 192.168.100.1 I have tried to access the router on 192.168.100.1 and cannot even get to the page where it asks for admin/logon etc etc. Any ideas? Also ran IPCONFIG /ALL Host Name :MArk Primary DNS Suffix : Node Type :Unknown IP Routing enabled :No WINS Proxy enabled :No Any help much appreciated! 169.254.x.x is the autoconfiguration address, which indicates Windows was unable to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server.
Turn off encryption on both sides and try to connect. If you're successful, you are probably using mis-matched WEP keys. Use ONLY the hex keys, don't use the passcode option.

the encryption is on, but i am getting a full connection to the router.
The WEP is 128 bit and if I change the password then the icon goes red. Otherwise it remains green and says I am connected at 11MBps. That did not work unfortunately..... any other ideas? thanks guys |

Is the Router the DHCP ? you need an IP in the 192.x.x.x. range the 169.x.x.x as stated above Windows gives out.'
Log into router check to see if DHCP is enabled or configure your TCP/IP to something like 192.168.100.5. "remember all PCs have a unique IP. Also if that network doesn't use a DHCP you will also have to configure the Isp DNS server's IP's. Note: Just enable DHCP in router and have PC automatically obtain IP and DNS. or manually configure connection. |

You are not getting a full connection, that's why you don't have the correct IP address. Please try turning off WEP on both sides and see if it works.
