Question I have a proxy problem

I have no idea what a proxy is, but a site I went to said this....

"Signups trought proxies are not allowed. Please use your real IP"

They didn't even spell "through" correctly.

Can someone tell me what a proxy is, and how I can get around it?

The apparently think you are browsing through an anonymous proxy site. Since we don't know the site, it's hard to recommend a course of action.

What is your ISP, and how do you connect, dial-up, DSL, cable, satellite?

I would find it strange if you arent proxied to get that error, and they are not the only site that does that. But if you really are not proxied, then use a high anonimty (sp?) proxy and connect and maybe they wont detect it. Or you can simple sign up from a library or a friends house.
