networking 2x XP pc's using a x-over cable...

ello peeps!

wondered if someone could help....

I've just bought a new pc, I was *tryin* to re-do the access to it from my laptop.....

so:

1. i shared all the folders i need to access on the desktop
2. i did the IP address's (simple, [desk]192.168.1.1 & [lappy]192.168.1.2 both on subnet 255.255.255.0 )

this used to work a treat, but now I get "192.168.1.2 is unaccessible, you may not have permission to use this resource"

Hmm... did I forget to do summat??
I've renamed each of the pc's & put them both in the group "HOME"

any ideas peeps, this is really doin my head in, & i have to keep pessing about with floppy discs all the time....

Yes. The machines have to have a way to know it is ok for you to access them. Having the same user name and password is the easiest way to do this.
