Problem with odd program connections.

I am currently using a wi fi connection, and have been for 2 1/2 weeks now. I was intially using Firefox 3, aim6, and IE7. Well one day i booted the lappy up and firfox would no longer connect, no biggy i just used IE7. I also need to note here that while aim could connect, Y!IM, trillian, pidgen, and msn would not connect. I updated to IE8 and it would not connect. I double checked and all my settign were the same as they were for IE7.
I ended up booting in safe mode to find that IE8, firefox, and several different messanger's would connect taht wouldnt work in normal mode. SO i uninstalled IE8 and continued using IE7 in normal mode. A friend with aim7 wanted to video chat so i updated to aim7, it would not connect in normal mode but would work in safe mode. Tho its connection configuration was the same as aim6's which would run in normal mode. I downgraded to aim6 b/c it worked with IE and now aim wont connect at all except in safe mode.
I tried going in safe mode and repairing my regisrty and ran malware bvytes, norton antivirus, avg, hijack this, ect.. nothing made me be able to connect with anythign other than ie7 in normal mode. I tried again installing ie8 and in normal mode it will not conect, but works just fine in safe mode. I completely uninstalled all antiviruses to completely negat ethe possibility of runnign a firewall. To be perfectly clear I am runnign no firewall of any kind.
I tried logging each thing that ran in normal mode but not in safe mode and can find nothing besides drivers that does not load in safe mode.

Any idea at all what could be causing this?

Re: Problem with odd program connections.

The indications are that an Internet security application or firewall that loads in Normal Mode is blocking the access.

Booting in Normal Mode, let's see this.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I had originally thought that it was a blocked port, but that was thrown out with them owrking in safe mode. I also assumed that IE7 and IE8 used the same conifguration but while IE7 wokrs in normal mode IE8 wont. But i had no idea at all as to why aim6 worked then when i updated to aim7 it woulndt work, but when i downgraded like i did with IE7 it didnt start working again. Thanks again for the help.
edit: i also notice by some of these pinds I shouldnt even be online atm :4- and yea im still usign the laptop at the hospital.

Re: Problem with odd program connections.

Something is running in Normal Mode that is blocking your connection, that seems clear. I'm guessing those same tests work fine in Safe Mode, right?

Re: Problem with odd program connections.

yea i get about the same results in safe mode, i think im going to try a full clean install, see where that takes me.

Also i failed to mention I also run Linux Fedora on a partition, and xp on a partition, but i get nothing whatsoever in Fedora, and the xp is a clean install but i get no connectivity whatsoever b/c the drivers for my wireless card dont work well with xp

Re: Problem with odd program connections.

Well, I'd suggest NOT using a hacked up version of Windows, try installing plain-Jane Windows.

Re: Problem with odd program connections.

the one i am having the problem with is a regular over the counter vista install and i have an untouched xp install and a stripped down xp install, the regular xp install doesn't support my wireless card's drivers, and the stripped down vista i have only has windows security taken out to insure i have no kind of firewall anything running.

at any rate i found the solution to my problem, in safe mode networks read ur information differently, and in safe mode my connection bypasses blocked ports to some degree b/c the networking doesnt report the same way,i dl'd the authentication safe mode hack(tricks ur pc into thinking it is safe mode) and now i have full functionality in normal mode.

i to assumed it was something runnign in normal mode, but i had my it friend come look at it the logs and he said nothing that would disrupt a connection was running normal mode(i run no anti virus/firewall programs whatsoever b/c i dont need them), but even he was stomped by the fact that aim 6 was connecting at port 430 in normal mode, but once i installed aim7 aim would no longer connect at port 430, also i di alsotry a full clean out of the box vista install and had the exact same problems, thanks for all the help guys
