Wireless Adapter
Hi , i recently changed my net to Wireless Cable. But after a couple of months; now i keep getting disconnected, i dont know if its my my USB wireless adapter or just bad service. So my question is do i need to buy i Wireless Router/Adapter? My model is a Netgear Cable Modem Gateway CG814WG and the USB adapter is a Netgear WG111v2. What is recommended so i stop getting DC every few minutes. Also im running XP.
Thanks Last edited by Kewell07; 11-06-2009 at 05:17 AM. |

Re: Wireless Adapter
Open device manager and at the last entry you should see 'universal serial bus controllers'.
Expand this and then open the usb root hub entries and in the power management tab, take the tick out of 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. Do this for usb root hubs listed. Also disable power saving for the device itself in network adapters. Hope this helps. |

Re: Wireless Adapter
You could try going to windows update site and click on custom.
To the left see if thee are any drivers under hardware. If there are click on hardware to see if pci drivers are listed. Download and install them. |

Re: Wireless Adapter
DON'T DOWNLOAD HARDWARE DRIVER UPDATES FROM WINDOWS UPDATE!
Go directly to the manufacturer of the computer or adapter. Too many times the Windows update hardware updates are incorrect and will render your system inert. Don't ask me how I know this!

Just because it didn't happen to you, that doesn't mean it can't happen. This is a widely discussed issue, and the general advice, which I agree with, is not to use Windows update for hardware drivers, get them from the original manufacturer.
