Freezing computer when connected to internet.
Basically this is whats wrong. My friend's computer is windows XP and it locked up one day. This was about a week ago. Since then, they have been unable to turn it on without it going to a gray flashing screen. So I went over and took a look at it. First thing I do is disconnect the internet and turn it on. It starts up normal until everything has been loaded a window pops up that says something along the lines of install built in infrared device. So I just canceled it and that was it. But, once I connect the internet, the computer either freezes or restarts and goes to the flashing gray page. I put Hijack this on the computer and made a log. I can post the log if needed also, the built in infrared device, should I install it? It seems to come up every time the computer is turned on without internet plugged in.

Re: Freezing computer when connected to internet.
Sounds like the network drivers are corrupted, or some other application or service that uses the network has a problem.
Boot in Safe Mode with Networking and see if you can connect the network successfully.
