Re: How to create LAN between 2 net connected pcs
Just simply plug the cable from PC1 to PC2. The 2 PCs will have their tray icon with a small yellow circle revolving while acquiring an IP address. Because neither of these PCs has DHCP server, no one will assign an IP address automatically, so you need to manually assign them static IPs.
Try these steps: 1.) Double click the tray icon which has small yellow circle revolving. 2.) Click properties>highlight "Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)">click properties 3.) Assign an IP address(e.g. 192.168.1.1) and subnet mask(e.g. 255.255.255.0) Do the same to the PC2 but with different IP address(e.g. 192.168.1.2). |

Re: How to create LAN between 2 net connected pcs
your 2 PCs can share files and printers if they belong to the same workgroup.
I think if you do not share their connections, there will be no problem. Last edited by filexman; 11-02-2009 at 01:43 AM. |

The request will pass through LAN Card which is connected to the internet. I think this is how the Host decides where to send a request to: When the source host cannot find the destination host locally, it will find the destination outside the local network. Make sure none of the 2 PCs has enabled the Internet Connection Sharing so that they have separate internet connections. Last edited by filexman; 11-02-2009 at 10:37 PM. |

Re: How to create LAN between 2 net connected pcs
With this procedure, any Internet requests will go to the connection with an active Default Gateway, and not the crossover connection.
Configure the machines as follows. PC #1: IP address: 192.168.9.1 Subnet Address: 255.255.255.0 PC #2: IP address: 192.168.9.2 Subnet Address: 255.255.255.0 Leave the Default Gateway and DNS Server addresses blank. Make sure any firewalls are configured to put the 192.168.9.x subnet in the trusted zone. Finally, you'll have to enable fine/print sharing on the machines and actually share one or more folders or drives. Here's a page that describes the process in detail: http://www.howtodothings.com/compute...2-pcs-directly
