Every half hour disconnection from internet
Hi I have an issue regarding my Realtek wireless card that was included with my Gateway computer. It appears that every twenty to thirty minutes, sometimes less, I notice I am suddenly disconnected from the internet. My connectivity bar is always at 4 or 5 bars. Between my room and the room with the cable modem is another computer identical to mine. Also, there are about 4 or 5 other wireless networks within range of mine. This is frustrating when I am downloading files that are not torrents uploading assignments or sending E-mails. In a separate room there is a D-link wireless router connected to my Comcast Webstar modem.
My computer is a Gateway Model DX4300 AMD Phenom II x4 810 @ 2.6gHz with a ATI Radeon HD4600 card, 8GB DDRAM, 1TB Hitachi ATA hard drive and my network card is a Realtek 8185 NIC. I am running a factory installed Windows Vista Home Premium upgraded to SP2. Everything on my computer is factory installed from Gateway with the exception of a 60 day trial of Norton Internet Security, my DVI connected Acer monitor and some M-audio studio monitors. What can I do to fix this situation? Should I get a better NIC? Should I threaten violence to my neighbors who have the other wireless networks? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Every half hour disconnection from internet
Are you using your own personal router or one you share with your roomates? If this is a router you have direct access to make sure you've a password and named your connect, so you know your connecting to yours and have some measure of security on it...
you can try changing the channel on the router (1, 6 and 11 are best). When you are disconnected, what message does your wireless network connection give you, such as "not connected" "local only" "limited or no connectivity" etc.

Re: Every half hour disconnection from internet
I'd use Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and find the best channel to configure your wireless. That will be away from any strong signals as far as possible.
