Wireless not working on 1 of 6 laptops
I've had a look around the forum and I couldnt find a solution for this.
I am attempting to connect to a wireless network. When my laptop is set to "obtain an ip address automatically," the network has "limited or no connectivity." When attempting to repair the network, it gave the error of been "unable to renew my ip address." As there are other computers connected to the wireless network (5 others) which all work fine, I chose to set the ip address manually, using details retrieved from one of the other computers. After entering these details (Ip Address, DNS server etc), my laptop connects to the wireless network but when attempting to go online I get the error "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage." Using the replies from other threads in this forum I have tried solving this problem but I havent got anywhere. Now for some results.... Here is the ipconfig /all when set to automatically obtain an ip address: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. I have tried a few different ip addresses all with the same result. I have then tried using the automated winsock fix for xp as well as doing it manually in cmd using "netsh winsock reset catalog" and "netsh int ip reset reset.log" but the problem still persists. Just as additional information, as you can probably see, my Laptop is running xp whereas my friends laptop is running vista. There other laptops which work on the network are running a mixture of xp and vista. I hope I have supplied enough information for you to help me. Many Thanks. |

Re: Wireless not working on 1 of 6 laptops
Does a wired connection work to this machine?
Have you checked to make sure that IEEE 802.1x authentication is NOT enabled on the wireless link?

Re: Wireless not working on 1 of 6 laptops
Check your Services are Started on all PCs:
Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual). If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running. Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing.

Re: Wireless not working on 1 of 6 laptops
Let's reset the stack first.
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or Windows 7. Start, All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt. In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key: Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log Reboot the machine. Next, remove all stored wireless network profiles from the machine and search for the network again. See if you can connect that way.
