[SOLVED] Shared Internet connection stopped working.

Basically I have two laptops that used to share an Internet connection over WLAN. Two days ago, I unplugged the LAN cable from the fist laptop and plugged it into the second in order to surf while I was running a virus scan on the first one. When I switched them back, the second laptop refused to share the internet connection again. It works the other way around though, I can share the connection from the second laptop to the first but not from the first to the second. I'm doing exactly the same thing in both cases. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Shared Internet connection stopped working.

Are you using a wieless modem or a router. If you are using windows ICS then if you swap the computers round then you will need to set up ics on the primary computer and configure the second again. I would recommend getting a wifi router as the computers can be swapped from wifi to cable without problems.

Re: Shared Internet connection stopped working.

I'm using the in-built wireless cards on both laptops. I've tried reconfiguring the ICS but it doesn't help. I've tried both with fixed IPs and by making the "leech" laptop get the IP automatically. I don't really need a router because I don't swap the computers often (this was the first time in months) and it used to work just fine until two days ago.

What is the exact make/model of the modem that connects to your ISP?

Re: Shared Internet connection stopped working.

Siemens SpeedStream 4100, though I don't see how that's relevant. Like I said, it woks one way but not the other and both laptops have no problem with getting the connection over the cable. It's when I try to share the cable internet connection wirelessly with another computer that I run into problems and even then only one way.
