Testing Campus Network
Hey TSF,
I've noticed that my download speeds are much faster in the morning than at night here on my university's campus. I think it's pretty obvious that this is because everyone is asleep in the morning, and most of the internet traffic is during the PM. I was just curious as to how I could get myself a report of what my download speeds at what time on a certain day. Is there a program or a website that will help me test my DL speed every hour or so if I leave it up? Again, I'm looking for some application that will test my internet connection while I'm not here every hour or so. Thanks! |

Re: Testing Campus Network
Not clueless - volunteers who answer what they can when they can. Barely 24 hours between your posts, a bit of patience and much less sarcasm will go a long way.
Just my opinion - oh and I have no solution for you. |

Re: Testing Campus Network
Try using this software which will monitor the network traffic:
"Accurate Network Monitor 1.31" . Search from Google. It can sniff internet protocols performing tcp / ip, udp / ip communication traffic analysis. Hope it works for you.(**,) |

Re: Testing Campus Network
Since we're all clueless, we haven't got a single idea.
![]() I'm curious as to what the need is, you aren't going to change the response time of the campus network, and you already seem to know when the slow times happen.

I'm looking for an application that I can leave running on my computer for 24 hours. The application would test to see what my download speeds are once an hour, and then save the gathered data in a little report. After 24 hours, it should have 24 reports. 12am = 150kb/s, 1am = 165kb/s, ext. Why I want this (or something that completes the same task as this) is because I often download large files during the day here on campus. I'd simply like to see what time during the day I'd be able to download my files the fastest. |

What are the file sizes you are downloading? 500MB, 1GB, 2GB? And if you do find a software to monitor the download speed 24/7, how long do you plan on gathering the info before deciding on the time of day to do your download?

The size of the files that I'm downloading is also irrelevant, considering that my question is asking where I can find a program that will test my download speeds, along with some other specifics that do not bear repeating. The duration of data gathering is not of your concern, unless the answer satisfies some sort of personal interest of yours. |
