Cry Wireless Connection problems :(

Hi there, I'm having trouble keeping my wireless connection. Sometimes it won't connect at all and other times it connects but only for about 5 mins before disconnecting itself. I have had a couple of messages telling me the WLAN connection has failed in my Acer eNet Management box. To try and solve this i contacted my internet provider virgin media who said that it was because my laptop didn't have new enough technology to pick it up properly and was advised to buy a N series adapter, which i did and the problem still persists. What do you think it could be?! My friends mac has no trouble picking it up at all, even when her laptop isn't on mine still won't pick up the signal properly :( What can you suggest to help?

Thanks

*The router is a black DLink one if that helps...no I'm not a computer whizz :S

Re: Wireless Connection problems :(

hello tig89 and welcome to TSF!

Pls. try these suggestions:

1.) Try plugging in your laptop directly to the router by using a network cable and see if you are encountering this issue.
2.) click on Start, right click My Computer => Properties => hardware tab => Device Manager => find your Network Adapters right click on the Wireless Adapter and choose Update Driver. If you have an ethernet driver CD for your Wireless adapter have it ready, this will be the last suggestion, choose Uninstall then re-install. Normally your Windows will do a Plug N play auto install for you, but just in case you might have your CD driver ready.

Pls. let me know if it works

Re: Wireless Connection problems :(

Hi thanks for the suggestions, sorry for the delayed reply- I thought it was working fine again... I was wrong.

I had tried both of your suggestions aswell as looking into all the settings. When I plugged my laptop into the router it works fine, it's just when it's unplugged it picks up the signal fine but has enormous trouble connecting to it in the first place and when it has connected, it drops very quickly. Sometimes it re-conects by itself but it disconnects all the time. SO FRUSTRATING! I did however update my wireless adaptor driver, but this has made no difference. I also had bought a separate adaptor USB but it has the same trouble on that connection too.

When I click the diagnose connection, it comes up with a different reason everytime! Such as, the network security key is incorrect- if this was true it wouldnt connect in the first place surely? It also says, my laptop is not in range, when I'm sat next to the router! It says that user timeout also cause it not the connect- I don't know what that means, I don't think I've done anything at the time to cause it.

Recently my flatmates Mac has also had problems connecting to it, so it's not just me! :S

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks
