Need help in setting up a wireless network[MOVED]
Hi guys this is my first post and its nice to meet you all. Here is the problem I'm facing now. So basically I just changed my service provider and what's different is that now the cable television, internet broadband and home phone line is connected to a single modem. What this means is that the only way to start up any of the services is to connect through the same modem, which is wired and located in my living room in front of the television set in order to get the signal for the cable television. All the services run smoothly, but due to privacy reasons I have to be able to run the internet on my labtop inside of the bedroom. And the only way is to connect it through the cable modem in the living room, but there's not a wire long enough to do that, and it would be inconvenient anyway.
So I decided to get a wireless router, which was supposed to be "easy to install" but apparently isn't so. I have to connect the router to the labtop to the cable modem in order to start up the installation process, and after following the instructions on the disc it ran a scan and said that the connection was fine. But as soon as I pulled out the wire connecting the labtop to the router, the connection is lost. So I have to connect the labtop to the router to the modem just to get the connection, and that defeats the purpose of getting the router in the first place. So what I want to know is that where did I go wrong, and how can I start up a wireless network in my home. The model number of the router is TL-WR542G and its brand in TP-Link. My labtop is an LG brand and it runs under Windows Vista, thanks for the help :) |

Re: Need help in setting up a wireless network
I have that exact router and really have no issues tbh. you have to make sure and switch your ISP router off as well as the new TP-Link Router off to boot from fresh. Then put the ISP router on first, wait for a few mins till all the green lights settle down, Then with your TP-link wire connected to the ISP router, switch it on and again wait for a few mins. Then you should run your disk and install the software. Reboot your computer and see if that helps.
