I have a compaq presario v6000 running windows vista home edition. its been just over a week ago that it stopped connecting to the internet. i have contacted the isp they say everythings fine. I have run anti-virus and disabled all firewalls. Re: unable to connect to the internet
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit). Make and exact model and hardware version of any other network equipment, like a repeater, a booster, hi-gain antenna, etc. Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key: PING 74.125.45.100 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: unable to connect to the internet
ISP - Time Warner Road Runner
also tried on a AT&T wireless network Modem - Scientific Atlanta Webstar model # DPx2203 series cable model with emta P/N 4005849 Router - Linksys model # wrt110 I did have wep for security on the router and have turned that off as well as all of the firewalls. Set up as public network. Im running windows vista home premium sp2 and I've tried IE8 and FireFox neither will connect to the net. There are two other computers on this network one running vista home connected through a ethernet cable and the other running XP with a wireless connection. Both work fine. It says that I have local and internet connection wireless and when I plug in the Ethernet cable. When I try to use the internet IE8 says - Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems - More information. when i click on diagnose connection problems i get a box that reads Windows did not find any problems with this computer's network connection. Do you want to report the problem to Microsoft? Additional details about what went wrong can help create a solution. the report will be sent the next time you go online. send information. close. The wireless switch is on and when i connect with a cable it read local and internet connection again. when i boot to safe mode with networking it reads Unidentified network Access: Local only. and it will not connect to the internet. Re: unable to connect to the internet
You have a good wired connection there, is that the computer that you can't browse with? If so, try resetting IE to it's defaults and disabling all firewalls and see if that changes the symptoms.

Re: unable to connect to the internet
Boot in Safe Mode with Networking and see if browsers work in that configuration.

Re: unable to connect to the internet
I booted into safe mode with networking and the wireless reads Unidentified network connect local only. I turned the wireless off and plugged it in directly to the router and it gives me the same message. Still wont connect to the internet.

Re: unable to connect to the internet
I got all the symptons you have...
I finally reinstalled visita, that took the better part of a couple hours. Afteward the computer ran faster but still had all sorts of problems. I tried everything posted here. Pining ( that by the way like you shows you are connnected to the internet ), after a few reboots and clicking network repair I can now get the hardwire to work ( still drops every once awhile but a repiar fixes it). But, wireless is still busted. Can connect locally but no internet, pop the cable in and it works again. Sorry no specific step by step but keep on trying and maybe it'll come back. I've been dissapointed with all the pointers. Lots of good suggestions but nohthing concise as to problem and fix. Indicates what a mess windows really is compared to that other OS |

Re: unable to connect to the internet
It appears that there is a fix. Apparently the Norton 360 was the problem. I did the traditional uninstall and was still unable to connect to the internet. Just when I was ready to give up a friend informed me about a special uninstaller for Symantec products such as Norton 360. I found the Norton 360 uninstaller on the net and downloaded it and put in onto the labtop, ran the uninstaller, restarted and now the internet works just like it used to. Anyone out there having this problem try running the Symantec/Norton uninstaller if your computer has ever had any of these products. Thanks for all your help in trying to figure this out. Thank you SV.
