Wireless LAn used to connect FINE, now having problems after unknown driver install.

Specs: Windows Vista Home Basic.
Atheros wifi adapter.

I've connected to an unsecured wireless network in my neighborhood in the past from both this laptop (compaq presario cq250WM) and my dell PC.

I plugged in an old webcam today and it brought up the automatic device driver install. I remember this in the past causing a problem, it brought up a D-link install driver and me not thinking accepted and let it go ahead. After it was done i clicked this device is installed correctly and went to log in to a site to see if the webcam worked (even with the inkling of knowing that d-link messed my stuff up in the past)

now I know d-link is NOT a camera, and that this is most likely the problem.
My wlan is on, and im "connected" to the same unsecured network i usually am. In the properties box, it appears to be both sending and receiving packets as if it were online. however when I click mozilla or ie it will not load the page, it wont even do the same thing as it does when my conection gets weak and shows a default Myfreeze page. It wont move the green progress bar at all.

I reinstalled the atheros and HP wirless help driver and software from the compaq site for my model. NO help.

One of you geniuses please help me figure out what is going on here?
It would be So appreciated!!
