Router bottlenecks and upgrades
Hi all
I have recently noticed that my aging Buffalo WBR54g is becoming flaky. The signal frequently drops out which means that I end up connecting to my other router (which is further away and thus has a weaker signal). The (home) environment has not changed- wrt clients and neighbouring networks. Reboots make no difference. I have also noticed that when running speed tests directly from the cable modem I am getting 10 megs but via the router this can drop by 80%. I am happy to upgrade the router but need advice regarding selecting one that has minimal overheads and a decent QOS engine to prevent torrent clients from impacting on surfing. Other desirable features would be DMZ and support for servers on dynamic ip addresses, support for open firmware would be a plus (incase I want to bastardise it in the future). The option to use it as a wireless bridge (or with one) would be extremely desirable. I am UK based Any suggestions? Tnx in advance Last edited by hungover; 10-03-2009 at 02:09 AM. |
