Linksys by Cisko WRT54G2
Hello folks, this is my first post here. I wanted to ask what I think to be a simple question.
I was trying to help a friend of mine get his internet up and running and it seems to be going okay for now. First, the computer they're trying to access the internet on is a gateway desktop running XP. Service pack, unknown. Secondly, the internet works so far only when the at&t modem is plugged directly into the Cat5 port on the back of the computer. I'd like to also get their router working with the system as there is another computer to be added to the network and access to the internet given to it. Here's the setup: DSL Line >>>Motorola AT&T Modem >>>>>Linksys Router >>>>>>>2 XP Computers I know the Router is not configured yet, but I cannot access it for some reason. It does not appear in the network places window. So, how can I get it to reappear (it was working before, but the first modem died), and from there, how do I configure it to work with this new modem? Also, the Internet Gateway is disabled and I can't enable it. Help? Last edited by Dave Lee; 10-02-2009 at 06:40 PM. |

Re: Linksys by Cisko WRT54G2
and welcome to the ForumCheck with AT&T and ask if the modem is also a router. Without the model number, I can't find out. Did you power cycle everything? . . Turn off Modem. Router and all pc's . . after 15 mins, plug the Modem in and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabillize . . then plug in the Router, then one pc at a time to see if they have internet access. If not, On a PC that is connected to the Router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Linksys by Cisko WRT54G2
I suggest doing what I did today, bridge the modem and run the linksys under PPPoE. Will save you LOTS of headache in the long run.
That said, you can also pay the $75 upgrade for a 2WIRE modem.
