Hi Helpers: I have 2 Desktop PC's both with XP Pro and each with its own Modem. PC#1 has 2 RJ45 connections and connects to Linksys WAG160N Modem with built in Router and 4 port switch... one of the RJ45 connections is used leaving one free. PC#2 has 1 RJ45 connection which is connected to a Netgear DM111P Modem...so no free RJ45 connection available. Both PC's have access to the Internet using Cat 5 cable connected to their respective RJ45 port.
I have purchased a cross-over cable that has Cat 6 written on it and a 4 Port switch from the salesman but I could not follow his pitch on how to connect up this hardware. Could you kindly let me know the preferable way to connect up the 2 PC's using whatever hardware you think is necessary? I would prefer to retain both Modems if possible but you may have a preferable solution, in the present circumstances, that includes only the Linksys WAG160N Modem/Router. Is it possible that when the PC's are linked up that I can access each others HDD drives, not just a series of individual files? Any assistance would be much appreciated as I am now somewhat confused on this issue. Many thanks...Ray |
