Static IP's or DHCP?
Hi,
I'm wondering if I should be using static IP's for the computers on my network or just have them all detect IPv4 and IPv6 settings automatically by using DHCP? One computer on my network seems to have some days where it will disconnect from the network from time to time while there are also days where it won't get disconnected at all. So, that is why I am wondering if it might have something to do with my IP settings and if I should just assign a static IP to each computer. Also, while disconnected, my computer cannot seem to detect the DNS address and the local and external IP addresses Thanks |

Re: Static IP's or DHCP?
If you're having problems with a DHCP setup, why don't you just try assigning some fixed IP numbers to at least some of the PCs ? Then see what difference it makes, if any.
If doing that, don't forget to set your DHCP range higher up the list, with the fixed numbers lower. E.g., fixed numbers 192.168.1.10 to 1.50 and the DHCP range 192.168.1.100 to 1.200 |
