Find Router IP

Hi, our company has a router, which is connected to a firewall. (so the broadband comes from the router, through our firewall and then to our users)

Our internet went down today, and I wanted to change to a backup internet connection, so I needed to access the router and change the ISP username / password.

But I didn’t know what the IP address of the router was and couldn’t find it out. When I connect the router to a PC I get the message next to the local area connection icon.

“This connection has limited or no connectivity…”

Is there anyway I can find the IP address out? Maybe do a scan using a program to ping every possible IP address until it finds one?

Would I need to change my TCP/IP properties for IP address / Subnet mask / Default Gateway?

Many thanks

Re: Find Router IP

it is probably in bridge mode. or dhcp is turned off. or both. If you can log onto the firewall it should be be "pointing" towards the router. ie the address of the router should be set in the firewall. sometimes it isnt and the only way round is to reset it. Then dhcp comes back on and you can get on to it and change settings. What type of router is it?

Re: Find Router IP

Thanks for your reply. I think the DHCP has been turned off. In the firewall there doesnt seem to be anything which shows where it is pointing to. The LAN address is showing as the firewall IP address.

its a D-LINK DSL-G604T, I tried all the default IP addresses but they've all been changed in the past so it will work with our firewall

Re: Find Router IP

try changing your net work card to the same range as the firewall ip address eg if its 192.168.1.250 change your network card to static ip 192.168.1.33 and the same subnet mask.
connect to router with lan cable and try to get onto it with the 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.254 etc. these are only example addresses. yours will be similar to your firewall IP address eg could be 10.0.0.1 or the like.
otherwise just reset the router as they are very easy to reconfigure.
