Broadband is detected but doesnt connect to internet
Hi All,
Have a very strange problem with my broadband connection. My LAN Card (Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection) detects the broadband connection. It shows in the taskbar has connected but the issue is I am not able to get the login page of my ISP. I am just not able to connect to the internet. I have Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3. I tried pinging in dos prompt. I get a reply when I ping the IP Address but am not able to get any reply if I ping the default gateway. I get a 'request timed out' message. I have tried most things i.e. ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns and then have also tried updating netbios, uninstalling the lan drivers and reinstalling them, have tried running a microsoft fixit patch sent by HP (Laptop - HP Pavilion dv 1000) I have tried most things. I am exasperated and so is the HP Customer Service Person who was helping me over the phone. He has recommended that I should re-load Windows XP Home Edition. Is the issue a hardware problem or a software problem? If it is a hardware problem then how is the LAN detecting the broadband connection? PLEASE HELP. Thanks |

Re: Broadband is detected but doesnt connect to internet
would be difficult, since there is a common box in the entire apartment through which the lan line comes in to our flat. Hence I wouldnt know which router we would be using.

Re: Broadband is detected but doesnt connect to internet
ok. if your near the computer that is attatched to the network. open internet explorer and type in the address bar the following
192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (it will be one of the two) a box should then appear asking for a username and password the username should be "admin" and the password will either be "admin" or "password" try this and let me know if you can get the settings page to appear |

Re: Broadband is detected but doesnt connect to internet
It doesnt make sense that there is a "common" box through which the internet comes in. This would mean eveyone would be able to see everyone elses computers.
You might have to put a "static" ip address to your network card to get internet access. Also why do need to get to the "login" page of your ISP if there is a common box giving out internet? |

Re: Broadband is detected but doesnt connect to internet
well skuby, there is a common box where in there are number of lan lines connected. as for the static ip address yes - we have been given a static ip address through which we are to access the net. now i believe all those who are connected to the common box would have been given a static ip address and a default gateway and through that they could access their accounts. but all in all the fact is i cant access my net.
