I have installed all the drivers from Acer for the Extensa 4420 laptop but I can't get the network controller to install. Of course, this also keeps the wireless from working. I have tried installing both drivers from ACER, "Broadcom 4.102" and the "Athertos 7.2" drivers. Has anyone found a fix for this problem?

Hi,
Can you go to the Device Manager Right click on the error>Properties>Details Tab Scroll down to Hardware ID Post the info you find. Do this for ALL errors you have Bill |

Yes, the machine is an ACER Extensa 4420 with 2GB DDR2; OS is Win Vista Ultimate. This machine had accumulated some bad sectors on the original 160GB drive and it crashed. I could not get much off the original HD. It now has a 500GB HD and I am trying to do a clean install. Since I do not have the original CD's I had to download drivers from ACER. All drivers were installed, but the Device Manager indicates that the Network Controller still does not have drivers installed. I tried both drivers on the ACER site, but neither will remove the flag in the device manager and I can't get the WI-FI to work.

Re: Acer Extensa 4420 & Network Controller
In the [Device Manager]+[Network Controller Properties]+[Details] tab, I have the following info (in the Hardware IDs):

Re: Acer Extensa 4420 & Network Controller
You got the right driver, see if it will install this way.
Extract the driver to a folder Manually install the driver through the Device Manager. I don't have Vista, but I think the process is simular Go to the Device Manager Right click on the error>Update Select: No, not this time Select: Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) Select: Include this location in the search Select Browse and browse to the folder you extracted the driver to. Vista should install the driver. Bill Last edited by BCCOMP; 10-03-2009 at 07:24 PM. |

Re: Acer Extensa 4420 & Network Controller
This time it work
![]() It's odd that running the "Setup.exe" that is within the file doesn't place the drivers in the correct location. However, making a folder on the C: Drive and extracting to it does the trick. Have a brusky on me!!! |
