I can't seem to LAN these two computers!
Hi there. I sought some tutorials elsewhere and read some of the posts here to see what some of the general advice is and I'm still stumped!
I don't even care about Internet at the moment, I just want file sharing. Here's the situation:I have two XP computers connected by Ethernet Cable: 1. I have run Network Setup Wizard on both, using 'Mshome' as the Workgroup for both. 2. I have enabled File Sharing for both LAN connections 3. Each computer individually recognises it belongs to 'Mshome', but does not recognise the other's presence 4. The Connection status of 1st computer: Manually configured, IP=192.168.0.5, Subnet Mask=255.255.255.0 5. The Connection status of 2nd computer: Automatic private address, IP=169.254.241.219, Subnet Mask=255.255.0.0 6. Pings to each IP from the other time out I'm not sure what else to include. If anyone can give me any pointers at all, I'd be VERY grateful . Cheers!

Re: I can't seem to LAN these two computers!
Are you connecting computer to computer direct without a router or switch? If so, a regular ethernet cable will not work for you. You need to use what is called a crossover cable.

"The Connection status of 2nd computer: Automatic private address, IP=169.254.241.219"
That will not connect to your first PC until you get this one to also have a 192.168.0.? IP address. |
