Can't connect to internet
I have a Dell XPS Desktop running XP Pro. I'm connected to the Internet via a Broadcom Netxtreme 57xx card and ethernet wire to a Linksys router.
Suddenly, after reinstalling Norton Internet Security, I can no longer connect to the internet. The Linksys router is working because I can use a laptop to wirelessly connect to the router and then the Internet. I ran Device Manager on the Desktop and selected Network Adapters – The listing includes these items : 1 - Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Controller – Symantec Network Security Miniport 2 - Wan Miniport (IP) – Symantec Network Security Miniport 3 - Wan Miniport (IPX) – Symantec Network Security Miniport All three are marked with a yellow “!” Clicking on “properties” for "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Controller – Symantec Network Security Miniport" produces the message – cannot start, code 19 Running “troubleshoot” takes me to the “Help and Support Center” which produces message to “open device manager” and attempt to “uninstall” device. Attempts to uninstall using the Device Manager fails, claiming it "may be needed to start the computer". I'm not even sure the yellow "!" is indicative of my problem but didn't know where else to start. Any suggestions ? |

Re: Can't connect to internet
When you right click each device and choose Update driver it should update or re-install the driver for you, just make sure that you have the CD driver if it didn't detect the driver automatically. Have you done this yet? I would start from here and see what happens.

Re: Can't connect to internet
That did work, with the CD installed I clicked on update. The system found it and cleared the driver problem.
My Norton Internet Security also went south at the same time the driver problem was cleared up. Apparently Norton and the card drivers work together. Originally I had a problem with Norton and let a Norton technician correct the problem. But then the drivers went bad. This time I corrected The Norton problem myself and Norton is back up and runing without causing net card problems. Thanks |

Re: Can't connect to internet
Don't forget to use the Norton Removal tool when you remove their product. An improper uninstallation is what most likely caused this.
