the Internet cannot be found
I'm getting this notice saying: '' you are connected to the acces point, but the Internet cannot be found''. I'm in a network with a laptop and another PC that both use vista, this computer uses XP and the other computers work just fine. I only get this notice sometimes and sometimes it can connect just fine and my internet is decently fast for a while.
I wouldn't know what kind of info or where to find this information for you to help me since I'm only fourteen, dutch and don't know a lot about tech stuff. So if you could tell me in simple steps where to get this information, I'll post it Your help will be appreciated greatly. |

Re: the Internet cannot be found
Do you have Zone Alarm or any security software installed? Try disabling them and see what happens. You have something installed that causing this issue.
Are you wireless connected to the network or wired (cable plugged in to the router)? Pls. let me know.

Re: the Internet cannot be found
Please check this out==> Go to Tools --> Internet options -->Connections Tab. Check your proxy settings make sure it's not on "Never dial a connection". Check your LAN Settings too and make sure it's not using any Proxy.
If this doesn't work, you might want to reset your Internet Explorer Settings to it's default condition. Pls. give me un update.

Re: the Internet cannot be found
According to my dad I'm using an ADSL modem and apperently I couldn't click any of the circles under the connections tab. By resetting do you mean setting the computer back a while?

Re: the Internet cannot be found
Please try this first suggestion ==> 1. On the Contro Panel, click Network and Internet Connections.
2. On the Network Connections screen, click on the Wireless Network Connection. 3. Right click on Properties and click the Advanced tab. 4. Click both boxes on the Internet Connection Sharing. If the first suggestion didn't work then try this one. Second Suggestion: 1. open up a command prompt, click on start then on search type "cmd" without the " " 2. from this black screen type these: ipconfig/ release then press enter then again ipconfig/ renew Please update me.

Re: the Internet cannot be found
I already did the your first suggestion since I read about this problem on another forum and that was the suggestion. For your second suggestion I've did it but can't try it out yet since it's 1 am here and I've to go to sleep. I'll update this tomorrow in the meantime this is some info that was written in that black screen and I could also find it by doubleclicking on a icon in my bar below in the screen may be usefull or not I don't know:
adres type: given by DCHP IP-Adres: 192. 168. 1. 2 Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0 Standard-Gateway: 192. 168. 1. 2 I know for a fact that everything on there was the same as before I used that black screen thingie except for the subnetmask. |

Re: the Internet cannot be found
Hi Solicus...it's ok dont' worry we'll get it running just hang tight and be super patient. I am going to have you do something a little harder, but...I need you do find the driver/software for your wireless network adapter, bec. we are going to uninstall the network adapter driver and re-install, I just want to make sure that you have the driver with you, let me know when you find it.

Re: the Internet cannot be found
also pls. do this--> open up your Internet Explorer go to Tools then Internet Options, in General tab, delete cookies and Delete Files, or if you want you may run "ccleaner"http://www.ccleaner.com/download, this cleanup any temp files in your computer, cookies and broswing history.
And...Check the Connections tab from Internet Options, click on LAN Settings, can you tell me what's in your LAN settings please? any proxy?

Re: the Internet cannot be found
Sorry I haven't replied on a while but school started again and I was a bit busy. Anyways I ran the ccleaner program twice but it didn't work. I checked my dads closet cause I know he keeps tech stuff in there for safe keeping (our house is a mess lol :P) and I found 2 packages, one for a router and another one for an adapter.
Since you asked for the adapter I opened it and I saw a manual for installing it, the adapter itself (maybe we've more :O. I'll ask my dad about it.), an attene and a disk which is probably used to install the thing. I checked my LAN settings and this is exactly what it says: LAN-instellingen X(exit sign) Automatische configuratie Een automatische configuratie kan handmatige instellingen onderdrukken. Als u handmatige instellingen wilt gebruiken, dient u de automatische configuratie uit te schakelen. (box which you can click no clue how it's called in english) Instellingen automatisch detecteren. (box) Automatisch configuratiescript gebruiken Adres: (rectangle which you can type in) (this rule is in grey) Proxy Server (box) Een proxyserver voor het LAN-Network gebruiken (deze instellingen zijn niet van toepassing op op inbel- en VPN-verbindingen). Adres: (another box for typing) Poort: (box typing with 80 in it) (button with geavanceerd on it) (Grey Rule) (Box) Proxyserver niet voor lokale adressen gebruiken (Grey Rule) (button: OK) (button: annuleren) Since you probably don't understand dutch this is my english translation which may have some errors though: LAN:Options X Exit Sign Automatic Configuration An Automatic Configuration could oppress manual options. If you want to use manual options, you should shut down the automatic configuration. (check box) Detect options automatically (check box) Use an automatic configuration script Adress: (Type box) (Grey) Proxy Server (check box) Use a proxy server for the LAN-Network (these options don't apply to dial up-? and VPN-connections). Adress: (Type box) Port: (Type box) (Button:)Advanced (Grey Rule) (check box) Don't use proxy server for local adresses (Grey Rule) all Check boxes are without a cross in them and everything grey cannot be clicked or typed in. I thank you for your time and patience with me and I'll hope it'll work out soon :) Sincerly, Solicus |

Re: the Internet cannot be found
Welcome back....Nice to hear from you Solicus? How's first 2 days of school? I bet it's hectic. Back to our troubleshooting, on the CD that you found, I need you to tell me if there's a label that says PC or computer Drivers, if there is, that this is the CD that we are looking for. Normally when you uninstall a driver from any XP or Vista PC it will do a plug n play meaning install the driver hardware for you. The CD is just going to be your backup in case your XP did not detect the network driver. Pls. let me know if you have the CD so that we can proceed.

Re: the Internet cannot be found
make sure you dont have a static IP address while dynamic IP address is on inyour router/access point.
make sure your MAC address gets recognised. thats all i can think of right now, Layer 2 or Layer 3 problem in OSI. |

Re: the Internet cannot be found
@2xgrump: Sorry I didn't reply yesterday but it was my birthday and the internet was also working fine yesterday :). I looked at the cd again and I think it's what we need since there was a red sticker on the envelope that contained the disk which said Run CD First before connecting the device to your PC. on the disk itself it said it was the setup wizard and documentation
@FanEAW: Sorry but I really have no clue what you mean could you tell me what to do in extremely simple to understand steps. Sorry but I'm foreign, 14 and I don't know a lot about these things :P. |

Re: the Internet cannot be found
Hi Solicus.... we are looking a CD that should say Drivers included not Operating System, the Run CD that you found looks like your XP CD.
As for FanEAW, I think what he meant was from your LAN Poperties, the IP address should be in auto configure mode not on Assign IP (which is Static IP). Also, belated Happy Bday to you!

Re: the Internet cannot be found
Well today I've noticed that moving the router around helps a great deal with the connection :O I just move it like a meter away whenever I'm in a lag spike and the connection turns decently good again. It may be just coincedental but I just wanted to share it since you may it may aid you in helping me with a solution. What if I'm not in possesion of that CD? I'll search tomorrow but I think I'm not going to find anything. I'll just hope the router thing keeps working :). Thank you for your continued replies and for the birtday thing :P
