Re: the Internet cannot be found

Well my problem still isn't solved just over the past few weeks I've been kinda busy with school starting again and such. Next week I'm free for a week though so I'll be able to work on this a lot.

Well I asked my dad and he said that that disk I was talking about was the only adapter disk. I was pretty excited so I just went into all programs and pressed uninstal on the linksys thing it uninstalled and I had to restart the computer. Some notice came up asking if I wanted to search on windows update cause strange hardware was detected. I pressed continue and there was something about putting in a disk if I needed too so I thought this was a good time for it I putted it in. And eventually it said it was installed.

I was happy but my internet remained the same. I checked all programs and couldn't find the program. I opened up ''this computer'' and I activated station D: which was the disk I was in another software installation wizard so I figured that I did something wrong. I just pressed continue to try and find out it said that I shouldn't input the adapter before I installed all this. Now my problem is that I left in the adapter at all times doing this stuff... now my question is: 1. Did I just ruin my computer or at least the adapter. 2. what do I have to do next?

I understand it was kinda stupid of me to just leave it in after being repeatedly warned by stuff but I was excited and wanted the internet to work so much :(. I hope you're still here trying to help me 2xgrump.

Back again, Solicus.

PS: my parents say it's a game I installed online that has all hidden software working in the background destroying my computer. I doubt this because the game itself probably has millions of players and is able to be pay to play so why would it devalue gameplay? The game is called Maplestory and is made/owned by Nexon. I tried deleting it didn't improve anything so I just reinstalled it.

Ofcourse my parents then said I couldn't delete those programs in the background just like that. Their new solution: restoring it. I've dealt with this problem for a while now and I did try restoring once or twice. But I don't really want to restore it now since there are some game saves I want to keep. By the way those games have been installed after this problem occured. Well I basically got this problem when I got the computer :(. My bro got a new computer and I got his old a few months back and then the internet was pretty bad too, not this bad though.
I said

Re: the Internet cannot be found

Hey Solicus welcome back...no problem I will try it again, I know that you are doin' your best also.

Try these:
1.) You may try changing the Channel of your route => Go to http://192.168.1.2/ click the Wireless tab, change the channel
2.) do your have a WEP encryption? it shd be in your router too? how typw of WEP are yo using such as WEP personal etc...
3.) or if your wireless is not secured, it possible that's one of your neighbors is using it and it will affect the performance of your connection.
4.) Try running Malwarebytes and remove malware, see if this helps => http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebyte...=dl&tag=button
4.) Have you tried contacting your Internet provider and see if they can help you?

I hope that we can fix your issue this time, must have been so frustrating.

I know for a fact that everything on there was the same as before I used that black screen thingie except for the subnetmask.
Did you mistype the Standard-Gateway? Don't you mean 192.168.1.1?
Your IP adres can not be the same as the Standard-Gateway.

Re: the Internet cannot be found

@2xgrump: 1)It gave me a can't load page when I clicked your link typo?
2)Wep incryption... Right can you please detail a bit how I can find this?
3)No it isn't secured too bad :( My dad couldn't secure it somehow. I'll try to use the internet at 2 am or something to ensure it isn't being abused? Also wouldn't this affect the performance of the other computers in the network
4)Gave me this error when installing: There is an error. Please report the following error code to the malwarebytes' Anti-Malware support team. Trying to redownload now.

Error code: 732 (87, 0)

The paremeter is wrong.
5)No, I haven't contacted them since the other computers are working fine and my dad says it won't do any good.

Back to the adapter so I uninstalled the whole thing and supposedly installed it again but I can't find it in the bar down in the screen or in all programs. Should I try to use the install wizard with just the adapter in...?

@Techbytes: Yes that was a typo... :x. Was indeed supposed to be 192.168.1.1

Re: the Internet cannot be found

Okay the error was just for updating it probably cause my connection is so bad but I did an entire scan and a quick scan both didn't detect a thing.

Re: the Internet cannot be found

Let's do this for right now, I have to go....For No. 1 => open up IE then type your gateway address of 192.168.1.1, I just copied and pasted yours, Techbytes was right on the Gateway IP.
Techbytes thanks for the help and pls. don't give up on us, Solicus appreciates that too.

Re: the Internet cannot be found

Okay, today I just took a chance and reinstalled that adapter while the adapter was still in. Luckily it just worked cause I couldn't really see myself opening up the computer and everything. After that I tried your gateway thingie first I tried to guess the username+password for about an hour -_-. Just tried random passwords me or my dad might have added, yes I do use the same password for more things so.

Anyway after that hour I got some sense and looked carefully at the router I found a default password+username, put it in and it worked :). Now I've clicked a bit around for 30 mins already and can't find how to change my ch so any help there :)?

I also found these numbers on my router but no wep encryption...

Mac 1: 001F3336783A
Mac 2: 001F33367839
Security Pin: not sure if I should say this online...
Serial: 1TR28479005DE

Re: the Internet cannot be found

What is the make and model of your router? I have to do research so that I can give you a more detail instruction.

Re: the Internet cannot be found

Ehrrrmm a Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G2 ?

Also I think I may have screwed up badly on trying to reinstall that adapter since now whenever I open the wireless network monitor it says it's in adhoc mode doesn't connect to a thing and it's ip addres is just some zero's therefor it uses the Windows XP Wireless Configuration. Which works pretty much the same as far as I can tell.

Sorry I haven't replied in a while again but I was on a holiday in belgium and my test week is coming up (sigh).

Hello solicus....
try this....reset your modem, by power cycling through.
turn it off and wait about 8 seconds.
plug in the wireless router and reset the router.
And above all....make sure the modem and wireless router are at least three feet apart...the wireless will interfere with the modem and cause it to lose connection.

If the above didn't work, I would replace your wireless Adapter, get a better one at least a G to N Adapter. Let me know.
