Connecting 2 computers using a router...
Right guys, hope someone can give me some help here....
Firstly, the scenario is this: I have a pc at home, connected to the internet (Cable) via a linksys router, i also have a laptop, which connects wirelessly via the same linksys router. The laptop is fecked, the usb ports dont work, and i need to get some sizable files off. it has a CD writer, but no DVD writer, so copying to CD would take too much time, i cant use my USB harddrive as the USB ports are fecked. My question is this, is it possible, to use my desktop PC (connected to the linksys router via ethernet) to access my laptop whilst its connected to my linksys router wirelesly, access the C drive, and copy files accross? Many Thanks for your help. |

Re: Connecting 2 computers using a router...
Assuming these are on the same subnet which I guess they are from the decription.
On the laptop, share the C drive (right click in explorer and selcting sharing & security) Share this folder/Drive and give it a name like "cdrive". The default permiisions will be Everyone has read access so no need to change these for copying files off. Make a note of the IP adddress of the laptop and on the desktop open exporer and go to tools - map network drive in the "Folder:" box type \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\cdrive (wheer xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the ip of the laptop) if prompted for credentials you need to use the logon and and password of a valid user account on the laptop You should then have a drive letter on the desktop which is mapped to the cdrive on the laptop and can use explorer to move copy files. |
