XP & VIsta: Home networking woes
Right now I am in the midsts of trying to network all 3 computers in my house together, for the purpose of being able to plug all the external drives to a single computer so that the other two in the household can access them remotely. Here are the 3 machines I'm working with:
1. My own desktop, windows vista home premium 64 bit 2. My boyfriend's desktop, Windows Vista Home basic 32 bit 3. My boyfriend's laptop, Windows XP Media Center (Wireless internet) As of now, either of the desktop computers can access the files on any other computer in the network beautifully with very little setup or effort needed. However, I am running into a great deal of trouble when trying to access the Vista computer from the XP laptop. I've made sure that all of the computers are in the same workgroup and attempted several times to run the Wizard in Network Places to get the XP to recognize the two Vistas, but no such luck yet. I'm thinking one problem could be that at the end of the Wizard in the XP I was prompted to use a floppy disk to create a Network Settings disk to use on the other computers, but this computer lacks that floppy drive and there doesn't seem to be an option to put the files on a USB backup drive or a CD-R. So, any avenues I may not have tried that could solve this little problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
