Wireless working... Ethernet not...
First of all, thank you, thank you, thank you to whoever set this site up. I'm hoping you can help me out. Here goes...
I've recently installed a Motorola SB5120 modem and a Belkin N+ Wireless router (F5D8235-4 v2000). Desktop-A is connected to the router via ethernet, and is running Vista Business Desktop-B is connected wirelessly with a Belkin N Wireless USB adapter, and is running Vista Home Premium. I also have two iPhones (wireless), a printer (ethernet), and an external hard drive (USB storage port on router) connected. All wireless connections work flawlessly, as do the network printer and network storage. Desktop-A, however, cannot seem to access the internet. In the Network and Sharing Center, it shows a connection to the network, but access is intermittent "Local and Internet"/"Local Only". I have yet to open a web page (IE8 and Firefox). If I connect the modem directly to Desktop-A, the internet works fine. The modem has all steady green lights, the router has all steady blue lights. I've tried restarting the PC, the modem, and the router. I've assigned static IPs and disabled IPv6. Nothing seems to help. I think Desktop-A has a good connection to the network. I can access the Belkin Router Setup (192.168.2.1) and adjust settings as needed. The Router Setup page also shows "Internet Status: Connected". Is there a router setting or ethernet adapter setting that I'm missing? Any ideas? 'Los |

Re: Wireless working... Ethernet not...
With a wired connection, Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command prompt. In the command prompt, type ipconfig/all. Right click, and click Select All. Then paste the results here.

Re: Wireless working... Ethernet not...
That shows you are getting a connection to the network, although I'm not sure what's up with the DHCP lease end (when you computer would get a new IP from the router.)
Have you tried repairing the connection from Network Connections (in Vista, click the red X will repair the connection.)

Re: Wireless working... Ethernet not...
Yep. Clicked the red X many times. This is what I get:
"Cannot communicate with www.microsoft.com (65.55.21.250) Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not recieve a response." Then I click "Reset Local Adapter", it says "Repairing", then "The problem has been resolved". The red X disappears and I get a green line. I go to the browser and attempt to load a web page (Google, Best Buy, WalMart, HAR, MSN...) and it times out. Then the green line turns into a red X again. |

Re: Wireless working... Ethernet not...
Don't know if this helps, but I just tried putting the Belkin N Wireless adapter on Desktop-A, disabled the Ethernet adapter, connected wirelessly to the network, and got a great internet connection. When I removed the wireless and enabled the ethernet adapter again, back to no internet. :*/

Re: Wireless working... Ethernet not...
Have you tried troubleshooting for the Ethernet adapter from Device Manager (My Computer>View System Information>Hardware>Device Manager>Network Adapters)?

Re: Wireless working... Ethernet not...
Yep. Tried that, too. I have an Intel 10/100 ethernet adapter, and all ports on the router are gigabit. I know the gigabit ports are supposed to be reverse compatible, but I'm kinda wondering if this may be part of the issue. I tried updating the ethernet adapter driver but it's current according to Intel. Also, my printer is still working on the gigaport.

Re: Wireless working... Ethernet not...
Try a few ping tests from the command prompt.
ping 192.168.2.1 ping (computer's IP address with wired connection) ping www.google.com
