Problem with wireless connection
I'm a novice at networking and I'm having trouble setting up a wireless connection.
I have a desktop (Windows XP) with a direct internet connection and a wireless router, and my roommate has a laptop that connects wirelessly via the router. That connection is working fine. I just bought a netbook (also XP) and I'm trying to connect wirelessly. The netbook detects my wireless network with no problem, but won't connect. When I run Network Setup Wizard, I get this message: "The network connections listed below are disconnected. Plug in your network cables or otherwise connect your network hardware, and then click Next. Wireless Network Connection Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter Local Area Connection Realtek RTL8102E/RTL8103E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC" What do I do? |

Re: Problem with wireless connection
Hi and welcome to TSF!
Do you have encryption setup in the router? If so, try disabling it to see if you can connect without it.

What is the make and model of your router?

Re: Problem with wireless connection
Put 192.168.1.1 in the web browser. By default, the username is admin, and the password is password. Under the Setup page, click wireless settings. There you should see the settings for wireless, including encryption (WEP, WPA etc.)

Also: would it help to try to connect wirelessly somewhere else? If I go someplace with free wifi and still can't connect, I'll know the problem's in the netbook. |
