I have a user who has a Compaq Presario laptop, with the HP LAN Wireless assistant. In the house he lives in, he is unable to connect wirelessly, but CAN connect through the hardline.
Here's the conundrum. Another user in the place CAN connect wirelessly. The wireless is NOT secured by the way. I have tried disabling the hardline, disabling and re-enabling the wireless assistant, turning the assistant on and off but to no avail. HOWEVER! Here's the kicker... ...I brought it to MY place to see if it will connect to the wireless here (which IS secure) and it connects just fine. I'm thinking it's the router at the place, but how can one laptop connect and not another? And if it IS the router, what the heck do I look for? It's a Linksys. Please advise. -eggBrain

Samurai,
It can connect wired. I just fixed the problem yesterday/last night as I continued to test at his place. Come to find out, in the Wireless connections tab of the adapter properties, the property of the wireless connection at his house was NOT set to "open" as far as authentication. That was the only thing that was wrong. This problem is now solved. Thanks! -eggBrain |
