Cry AT&T DSL Connection Dopping Randomly

Hello, we just moved into a new house and got AT&T DSL hooked up in it and it has worked just fine with my Speedstream 4100 Modem and Netgear WPN824 Router for the past month. recently, though, when I have been playing an online game, about every hour it will either freeze in a way common to a lost connection or tell me the message "Connection Lost... Please wait, Attempting to re-establish" It only does this for about 15 seconds, but it gets annoying over a week of dealing with it. Any input on how to fix this or find the culprit would be appreciated.

Re: AT&T DSL Connection Dopping Randomly

Sounds like a line problem to me. If dsl light blinks red then green it means your dropping the connection which I think it has something to do with AT&T.

What you can do, just make sure your modem is not on a carpeted floor, no lava lamps near to it, no large speakers (magnets) that might intefere the connection. You might also wanna check filters, modem should go straight to the phone jack and all phones needs to be filtered properly and this includes satellite receiver, fax machine and alarm system. If your phone and modem shares the same phone jack and needs filter just make sure your phone goes to the phone port and dsl go to the dsl port and make sure you're using a filter not a splitter. After that, you can call your ISP and have them take a look at it and see what's going on. Hope this helps.

Re: AT&T DSL Connection Dopping Randomly

Just got off the phone with AT&T. They told me some stuff about my speed being a low end package and basically told me I need to upgrade, which I am not doing. They suggested putting a filter on the line to the modem? Will this help?

Re: AT&T DSL Connection Dopping Randomly

If you have your phone sharing the modem with the same phone jack then this one should help. But if your phone is connected to a different phone jack (filtered) then connect modem directly to the phone jack no phone filters.

It's just weird they want you to upgrade your dsl package which I think speed is not the issue, it's the connection that drops once in a while. You might wanna call again and see what other tech agents advise you.

(alternate option is to ask for a supervisor..)

Anything I can do that doesn't involve their dismal customer support? I'm going to try using OpenDNS in case AT&TS DNS servers are screwing up...

There has to be some way to fix this. AT&T was completely useless. They only want to get me to upgrade claiming that I need ot upgrade to fix the problem.

Re: AT&T DSL Connection Dopping Randomly

It isn't your speed, that has nothing to do with it i think it HAS to be a problem on att's side. I am having the exact same issue, except is happening every 5-10min. Lag spiking a MMO and usually dc'ing me.

Also I have the fastest service I can get, as well as a static ip setup, since I run a web server, I don't think my customers have noticed yet, lucky me they are low demand local business sites.

*edit*
My modem is a 2wire 2701hb-g
