[SOLVED] How to know if specifically a virus is preventing internet access?
In theory, if a virus is preventing someone from accessing the internet, what are the signs?
Do the command prompt networking tools usually bypass all of the things that a virus would target? So would tests like ping 127.0.0.1 , ipconfig /all , ping google.com all work fine? Last edited by Blade_Jones; 08-24-2009 at 04:17 AM. |

Re: How to know if specifically a virus is preventing internet access?
So are you saying those command prompt tests can fail due to a virus? I always thought those command prompt tests were unaffected by viruses while IE and/or Firefox might be hijacked.
I don't have a computer that is infected. Just studying how to zero in on whether it's a virus or damage left behind by a virus. |

Re: How to know if specifically a virus is preventing internet access?
There are hundreds of new malware and viruses identified every week. You can't classify all infections with any single type of damage or behavior. Each one can affect a system differently.
There are malware forums here on TechSupportForum that would be better suited to your questions, with some incredibly talented security folks. The questions posted here in Networking don't get much attention from those folks. |

Re: How to know if specifically a virus is preventing internet access?
Correct, thousands of malwares and viruses are out there to infect users with different kinds of effect. Some will disable your browser, block connection, change some of your browser settings, pc settings, slow down IE, slow down connection, slow pc etc.
Virus/malware thread will definitely help you identify if your computer is actually infected by a spyware, virus or malware.

I didn't mean to repeat your post, I'm just giving my insight about it. I don't think there's a problem with it. We're here to help right? I'm just saying it in a different perspective.
