question regarding sniffing

I was reading that switched network in general prevent sniffing unlike hubs where the data is shared. i was thinking if one could plugged a hub to the main segment that is coming to the switch and then connected a computer to the hub, will he be able to sniff all the data coming out/ in the switch?

Yes.

And FWIW, in a commercial environment, the better switches permit data sniffing on switch ports.
