Problem with Gateway

I have looked at some of the others related to this issue, but do not see anything that is close-enough to what I am experiencing.

First what I have:
Windows XP Pro SP2, running on a AMD 64 dual core 2.7 Mhz processor with 4 Gb Ram and a Foxconn motherboard. I have a PCI ethernet card (Intel Pro 100 S) because the onboard ethernet adapter blew out due to some EMF a couple months ago. This is connected to an Asus WL-520GU wireless router/gateway, which is connected to a RCA DMC425 cable modem to Roadrunner.

Recently I began having this issue that is driving me crazy!! After between 12 and 36 hrs I will lose my ability to connect to the internet. I can still connect the gateway, I can ping the router and my wife's netbook (that's the reason for the gateway), and it seems I can ping Roadrunners DHCP server as well. But I was not able to ping microsoft.com or google.com. I can request and receive a new IP lease from the gateway as well, but still no access. When I bypass the gateway and connect directly to the modem, I immediately have internet access, but as soon as I reconnect to the gateway I lose the internet again. The Asus is configured as a gateway and does have DHCP enabled. My IP lease shows that it is about halfway through its lease when I lose it (though it happens at night or during works so I am not sure of the exact time of loss). I have never lost it while I am using the system. I found out tonight that when I cannot connect my wife CAN connect with her netbook through the wireless connection. The only way it seems to get everything working again for another 12 hrs or so is to restart the computer & gateway and request a new IP lease. If I restart the gateway but not the computer, nothing changes, if I restart the computer, but not the gateway, nothing changes.

HELP its driving me nuts!!!!
