'local only' on Three Mobile Internet (UK)

All,

My Mobile internet service is generally very poor. Despite having 3 bars out of 5 on the reception monitor, it regularly drops out. However, unless anyone advises otherwise, I assume this is a problem with the service provider.

Recently however, another issue has emerged whereby the connection is still open, but web pages do not appear. When I hover over the connection icon it states 'local only'. I then have to close the connection and re-open it which is a nuisance. This problem did not exist until the last 2 weeks and I don't believe I have made any changes that would cause this.

Please can you help.

Ross.

I would contact your provider and find out what's really goin' on. Might have been the device that you're using maybe it needs to be upgraded.

Re: 'local only' on Three Mobile Internet (UK)

@RossLondon:
I have a T-Mobile dongle which has just started doing the same to me.
Don't let them blame Vista or browser cookies!
I use XP on an older laptop and Vista on a newer one, plus 3 different browsers, and there is no difference.
I've noticed that the problem is worse between 3.30pm-8pm weekdays and (strangely) Sunday afternoons starting at exactly 12.00, the morning having been OK.
The problem is clearly bandwidth allocation. T-Mobile and 3 share a lot of their hardware and transmitters. They simply don't have the capacity and so they have to drop someone.
If enough people get together and start a class action to sue for performance they might wake up and sort it out.
