Need help with DSL/Wireless Router
Hi all, thank you for reading my post. I am in need of some networking help if some of you are willing to lend a hand. I am very clueless when it comes to networking, so bare with me. I beleive I have a DSL connection, and am using the following as my modem/router:
Comtrend CT-5071T ASDL2+ Ethernet Router ![]() And I have the following wireless router: Cisco Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router, Model: WRT54G2 V1 ![]() I am trying to set up the wireless router so that my laptop can access the internet. And I have no clue how to accomplish this. I tried following online instruction, but some how last night I messed up my DSL connection trying to get the Linksys setup and I now cannot establish a connection. (I've tried unplugging my DSL modem for 10 seconds to 10 minutes, but still cannot get a connection). So, if anyone can help me get me back online and get my wireless router setup to work with my laptop, It would be very much appreciated. Here are my system specs: Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz 6MB Cache 1333MHz FSB Alienware P2 Chassis: Alienware® P2 Chassis with AlienIce™ 3.0 Video Cooling - Space Black System Lighting: Alienware® Standard System Lighting - Astral Blue System Cooling: Alienware® Standard System Cooling Power Supply: Alienware® 750 Watt Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply Graphics Processor: Single Graphics Card - 1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 3870 X2 – Dual GPU Technology Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 x 1024MB Motherboard: Alienware® Approved NVIDIA® nForce 680i SLI Motherboard Operating System (Office software not included): Windows Vista® Home Premium – DirectX 10 Ready! Re: Need help with DSL/Wireless Router
You gave great hardware details but the networking parts are vague.
If you could, please provide more detail around the problem, what errors are you getting? Your first goal should be getting your previous connection back. |

Hi Terex, I am currently writing my replies from work, when I get a chance to get to my house I will jot down the errors/what is happening exactly, and post it here. So please check back in a bit.

Re: Need help with DSL/Wireless Router
Getting my internet back is top priority. I am not sure how I lost it. This is very frustrating to me, I will try to describe in more detail what I've been trying. I will use pictures as it helps me describe things better since I am not very tech savy.
Here is my desktop icon: ![]() This is my Network and Sharing Center before doing anything: ![]() And my Local Area Connection properties: ![]() (Don't mind the red circles and lines, my drawing skills are lacking) I followed the diagnostics steps to see if I could get it to work, with no luck. First I tried "Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter 'Local Area Connection' " ![]() After waiting I get this box, and proceed to click on "Reset the network adapter "Local Area Connection" ![]() Also, this is what my Local Area Connection status looks like: ![]() After clicking on "reset the network adapter "Local Area Connection" and still not working, I click on "Enable the network adapter "Local Area Connection 3" ![]() I then click on (after plugging my cable in) "Plug a cable into the network adapter "Local Area Connction 3" and it brings me back to the same page as the above picture. I then try selecting the "Reset the network adapter "Local Area Connection 3" And am followed by this: ![]() Here are some images of my connection's after I tried the "Local Area Connection 3": Network and Sharing Center: ![]() Local Area Network 3 properties: ![]() This is what I get when I run cmd and type "ipconfig": Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002] Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. Re: Need help with DSL/Wireless Router
Hi,
I see the following error Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-04-4B-0A-A8-30 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.70.185(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled you are not getting a valid IP address. Please do an IPconfig/release and then an ipconfig/renew command from the command prompt. You should get something like 192.168.1.1xx. Let me know if it works. |
