Viewing wireless laptop on network
We have a BT HomeHub with 4 PCs connected by ethernet and a wireless laptop.
The laptop can view the PCs but not vice-versa. The hub manager can 'see' the laptop, but it does not appear as a network device on the PCs nor can it be pinged. It is in the same workgroup and uses the same username and password. Files on the laptop are set to be shared as on the other machines. Any ideas please? Malcolm |

Re: Viewing wireless laptop on network
Thanks fory your reply roonie123.
I have tried turning off the firewall without effect. Most of our files are held on one machine and so the Lenovo's 'My Documents' is mapped to this file server. This mapping still works, but 'view workgroup computers' finds nothing and none of the PCs find the Lenovo wireless connection. The internet works fine. Confused, I am. Malcolm |

Re: Viewing wireless laptop on network
the first thing you need to do is establish a ping connection between the laptop and pc
if you laptop and pc are on the same subnet the only thing stoping it from pinging is the firewall try disabling you firewall in one of your pcs and the laptop and see if they can ping eachother with both firwalls disabled |

Re: Viewing wireless laptop on network
I have disabled Windows Firewall on a PC (192.168.0.18 and the laptop (192.168.0.4), but still no ping success. I can ping the router (BT HomeHub) from the laptop.
It is odd that the formerly established share still works and I chose this machine to test the pinging. Thanks again. Malcolm |

Re: Viewing wireless laptop on network
i must admit it is a strange one
the only thing i can think off that you bt home hub is got some sort of seperate security for wireless i would try plugging your laptop into you hub and see if it works if it works you know that its the router blocking it if it doesn't work you know its your laptop blocking it |

Re: Viewing wireless laptop on network
I tried a patch cable link - it didn't like that at all.
Scratches head..... To spread the load I am trying Lenovo support and the BT Broadband newsgroup. I will let you know. Thanks. Malcolm |
