Why do i keep losing connection when im wireless?

Hi all

I'll admit im a total novice when it comes to computers so i hope someone can help me with this because its really starting to do my head in lol
I'm currently connecting to the internet wirelessly using a netgear router and im using window xp
Every now and then my internet freezes. The wireless icon along the taskbar at the bottom still shows me as being connected and the signal is always strong. The internet will not work unless i right click and repair. This kicks me off the internet before allowing me back on almost straight away. However once this has started it will keep doing it every few minutes.
Now at this time the 'blue wireless light' is still on and shows as blue, however once i have repaired the connection after a while the blue light turns red, even though the icon along the bottom still shows me as being connected and the wireless still shows as being on??? Once the red light is on i have to reboot my system to try it again
Has anyone else had this problem or knows what it is?
Thanks

Re: Why do i keep losing connection when im wireless?

Have you tried upgrading the firmware on your router. I had the same type of problem with my Netgear WGR614, it consistently dropped me and still displayed that I was connected with full strength. After upgrading the firmware, this problem promptly disappeared.

Re: Why do i keep losing connection when im wireless?

netgear dg834g
but to be honest i dont think its the router i think it might be my laptop as the wireless 'light' keeps changing from blue (on) to red (off), even though the connection still says its connected and the wireless option says it is turned on

Re: Why do i keep losing connection when im wireless?

Again, to be honest i dont really know what you mean by card and device manager!!
When the blue light goes to red but it still shows as connected i try to shut down the pc and i always get one those error messages when trying to shut down. The one where it says 'end now' and its always for the connection tray. Not sure if that means anythin

Go to start>My Computer. Then click System Information, then Hardware. Click Device Manager, and right click your adapter under Network adapters. Click properties, then click Troubleshoot.

Re: Why do i keep losing connection when im wireless?

please do the following thing

1, go to dos mode and type "ping gateway ip -t "

eg: ping 203.145.184.13 -t

here u can check to connectivity of ur lan to isp .if it works fine without problem then it is pure Operating Systme issue.
