ISP blocking connection to sites?
Hi all,
I recently purchased an account with Fasthosts, so I will be able to host some sites for clients. From my home network, I am unable to log in on all 3 machines - I keep getting username/password errors. However, on other computers (I have had friends trying) they are able to log in. Fasthosts told me that they do not block individual IPs and that I should contact my broadband provider - which I currently am doing. Does anyone know of ISPs blocking access to certain sites? The link below, for me, returns an error saying: 'There has been a problem with Signup Please try again later.' https://order.fasthosts.co.uk/?packa...D&server=DS250 I get this error on all 3 machines on my home network, and yet the page loads fine for others. Is this my ISP blocking my access? Cheers, Colin |

Re: ISP blocking connection to sites?
Hey,
I didn't get an error at all when visiting that page. Have you tried to use different web browsers? Do you have a router that could be causing problems? If not I would definitely contact your ISP and ask them to narrow down your problem. JeKyL |

Re: ISP blocking connection to sites?
I've tried on all 3 browsers on my machine - and 2 browsers on another 2 machines.
I've tried resetting my router to no avail. That link I posted worked for me until I tried signing up - I did a half sign-up to check the costs, then went to do the full signup but started getting the errors. I've gone through everything I can here - cleaning cookies, etc - but the fault does seem to be lying with my ISP allowing my IP access to the site. I've emailed them, and funny enough I received this automated reply: "Hi, Thanks for emailing us. Our Broadband team have received your email and will get back to you in the next 48 hours. We're sorry to say that we've received more emails than normal over the past few days and this is why it might take us a bit longer to reply to your email. Our call centres are also very busy just now so please don't call us for an update on our email reply. Don't worry, we'll get back to you as soon as we can." Maybe they've started limiting access to some sites, and everyone's getting upset? Could just be a co-inki-dink, but seems feasible to me... I guess I'll keep you all posted, unless anyone has any other ideas? |

Re: ISP blocking connection to sites?
They got back to me with the following:
"Hi Colin Thanks for getting in touch about your broadband connection. We don't block access to any sites. The most common cause of this problem is that the site have your IP address on a blacklist and are blocking your IP address. If they have advised this is not the case please call us on the number below. This will allow us to complete further diagnostics over the phone. I tried calling but couldn't get through - is there a manual way to change my IP address, or does it have to be issued from o2? (I know how to change my address to my PC, but not the address to the router. Cheers, Colin |

Re: ISP blocking connection to sites?
Not that I know of.
The ISP assigns you with your IP address. I'm not sure if they assigned you a Static IP or a Dynamic IP address. The only way that I know of to get your IP address changed is to ask your ISP to change it. The address your router pushes out are Private IP addresses. To find your real IP address go to www.whatismyip.com I would try what your ISP said and contact the site in question and ask them to take you off their blacklist. JeKyL |

Re: ISP blocking connection to sites?
I contacted fasthosts again and asked if I was on a blacklist. They ran a search me my IP and told me I wasn't on the list... I contacted o2 asking them to change my IP and they said they didn't like doing it. The guy told me to look for 3rd party blacklist removal tools and try that. Now I'm just stuck. I'm not on a blacklist, but there is something about my IP which isn't letting me access the fasthosts account... The guy from fasthosts even said they don't use blacklists on the log in page (only if you make too many log in attempts with too many usernames in a short period of time...I didn't do this) Has anybody got any other ideas? Cheers, Colin
