A rhythmic dropping bandwidth.

I recently moved into an apartment with my friends. The building has built in ethernet ports, so we just plugged in my friend's Linksys WRT54GX2 wireless router. I'm using a powerbook g4 with an Airport Extreme. I keep getting a rhythmic dropping signal. When I'm downloading something in firefox I notice it the most because my download bandwidth will go from 300kbs to 0kbs every few seconds. Also I only get 6kbs in uTorrent.

pic for reference, the graph is my download and upload bandwidth over time. I have changed some setting from the default on the router to open some ports for Xbox Live, turned upnp on, and turned on DMZ for my xbox's ip address. Other than that, nothing. I'm not sure whats causing this, I've never seen the problem before. I'm not new to networking, I first started messing with network back on PS2 when Socom came out.

If someone could point me in the right direction to getting this solved, I will be ecstatic.
